“Chopped N Skrewed” (Music Video) — T-Pain ft. Ludacris

I never cared much for the song, but the music video is legit. I’m pretty sure I like the video more than the track itself…

Journey’s, Dumb N****rs, “N*GGA PLEASE? NAW NINJA, PRESIDENT PLEASE,” and You

Posted in Fashion, News, Philosophy, Pop Culture, Videos by junaverse on February 23, 2009
According to Journey’s, if you return things, you are a dumb n*gger.

“On Oct 17, 2008, a young man went to “Journey’s” show store in Kansas City, MO (some accounts of this story say it happened in Kansas City KS…Oak Park Mall). He bought a pair of shoes and then saw an identical pair at a different store for less.? As such, he bought the identical shoes from the cheaper store and took back the original more pricey pair to Journey’s. Later on that night, as he was reviewing the receipt, he noticed that the reason for the return was “Dumb N*gger”. When he took the receipt back to the store, they didn’t even apologize but did admit that the “reason” was in the system.”

CSI Miami on Journey’s… I couldn’t resist.

“This store is a retail chain for whom you may be a regular customer. There is power in the almighty dollar. Just something to consider. Please pass it along…”

In more cheerful news…

Presidents in New York are replacing the “N-word” with “President.” President please? Yes my prez.

The President Please mission statement:

“President Please is a non-profit organization dedicated to the abolition of “the N-Word” and it’s replacement with the word “President”.

We’ve been deeply inspired by Barack Obama, whose led the entire country down a new road to freedom and self-empowerment. Since we finally have an African American in the Oval Office, there is no better time for the black community to embrace a new optimism. We hope that this website will inspire hope, change, and a renewed positive attitude which we can carry into the future. Our dream is that every child born after January 20, 2009 won’t ever hear the N-Word.

Who’s with us? Where my Presidents at?”

William Sykes and Elton Montgomery, co-founders of the organization President Please, have already gained the attention of local news media.
How successful will they be?

You decide.

Rihanna, Post-Chris Brown

Posted in Music, News, Pop Culture by junaverse on February 19, 2009

Follow-up to Speculation: Chris Brown beats down Rihanna.

If you read my earlier blog post on Chris Brown beating down Rihanna, you may have noticed that the news was still rumor status. A photo has allegedly been obtained by TMZ has emerged of Rihanna’s injuries after the beating. Some believed that this photo never should have been seen by the public, others argue that people need to see the face of domestic violence. You decide.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have imagined that it would be that bad, but gah dang.

GET MONEY, F**K B*TCHES? (Super Mash Bros.)

Posted in DJ, Fresh Talent, Music, Pop Culture by junaverse on February 18, 2009

NAW NINJA, F**K B*TCHES, GET EUROS.

What is it?

“It sounds like Girltalk’s hot cousin.”

“Super Mash Bros is a musical project involving Nick Fenmore and Dick Fink, taking all of your favorite hits from the 90′s and combining them with todays chart topping rap hits in ways scientifically proven to make you shake you’re ass.” — Source: Lazerwolf.com

Super Mash Bros. debut album, “Fuck Bitches. Get Euros.” was released back in the summer of ’08. A new album is expected towards the end of February.

Sandy spotted

Short Version:

I catch feelings of nostalgia from this mash-up tape, it’s nice and quick listen. Not quite as good as DJ Girl Talk‘s works, but still an interesting listen, particularly Soulja Boy’s Crank Dat mixed with Da Rude’s Sandstorm and Vengaboy’s Boom Boom Boom. It’s FO’ FREE and it’s 30 minutes long, so what’s the worst that could happen. And if you already love pop music in the first place, I’m 99.9% sure you love this too.

Long Version:

When Super Mash Bros. say that they’re taking all the hits from the 90′s up, they’re don’t lie. If you’ve been keeping up with the radio for the last 19 years or have your own share of Now That’s What I Call Music! compilations, then you should be able to recognize most of not all of the tracks that they’ve tossed into their mix. On the other hand, if you despise anything and everything that the radio spits out or just don’t really bother with mainstream music, it’s likely that you won’t really want to mess with this either.

From their January 3rd Show.

If you’re still here though, go ahead and give it a shot; after all, the album is 100% FO’ FREE. You may already be a fan of DJ Girl Talk whose claim to fame is being able to take a crate of pop music, mix together two songs that would be taboo to mash up, and somehow, magically, make it work beautifully. Super Mash Bros. describe themselves as DJ Girl Talk’s hot cousin. Fair enough.

I’ve been a fan of DJ Girl Talk’s work for a while now, lovin’ the new Feed the Animals mixtape. I was a bit skeptical with the whole “DJ Girl Talk’s hot cousin” claim, but that’s aiiight. These guys can mix, no doubt, but I can’t say I feel ‘em as much as Girl Talk. For me, the mash ups are too short and seem to be simply taking the hooks of songs and putting them together. Nevertheless, Super Mash Bros mix ‘em well.

For me, Girl Talk has more mastery in setting a mood with his mixes, while Super Mash Bros. are potentially better at taking songs and making them more upbeat and club-friendly. Having to compare their 30 minute mixtape with Girl Talk’s 4 albums albums isn’t easy though; I’ll be anticipating Super Mash Bros’s upcoming February album which should help make a better judgement.

Def still worth a listen. They have done something I would’ve never thought possible: a Sandstorm and Crank Dat mash-up. Wow. Roth (who recommended this mixtape to me) asked a legitimate question: “are you supposed to rave or do the Soulja Boy to this song?” What I like about this tape so much is that it’s like a 30 min. rundown of pop music from the 90′s to today put together in ways you’d never imagine. I’m personally not particularly huge on mainstream, but these are all songs that I’ve undeniably heard at one point of my listening career, and I can’t help but smile at hearing it all put together. Check the noise.

‘Scuse me while I kiss the SKY HIGH (DJ Benzi x Kanye West x Plain Pat)

Posted in DJ, Fresh Talent, Hip Hop, Music by junaverse on February 12, 2009

“I KNOW I’M LATE BUT THIS IS THE S**T!”

Kanye West on Sky High

“Finally here is the high quality official version of ‘Sky High’ from Benzi & Plain Pat! this new version of current tv’s number mixtape of 2008 is not like the crappy imeem webrip that was floating around, and is all mixed and mastered and is in the proper order. in addition to that it features a new verse from kid cudi and a few other remixes and bonuses. enjoy this project in all its glory and look out even more major remix projects in the future!”
– Source: DjBenzi.com

I’ve only gotten word about and started listening to this mixtape today and I’ve already fallen in love with it. I’ve probably established that I’m definitely a big fan of Kanye West, from College Drop to 808s and Heartbreak and everything inbetween, but I bet even those who may have turned away from 808s or just don’t listen to that much Kanye would have an appreciation for this bloody brilliant mixtape put together by DJ Benzi and Plain Pat. Heck, even the Love Lockdown remix  is arguably better than the original for that matter. It’s also more upbeat than the original, like many of the tracks on Sky High.

The small touches in this mixtape really do it for me. This more or less might be because I’m a DJ, but I especially appreciate that DJ Benzi made this tape completely seamless with no gaps inbetween tracks, which makes it nice to listen to as a whole. I also liked some of the samples included to the tracks, one notably for me being the verse in Champion where Kanye says “Who the kids gonna listen to?” and the iconic “YUUUUUU” from Soulja Boy hits.  Small things like these, but point being that this mixtape is truly an intricately put together masterpiece.

1. Sky High Feat. Kid Cudi
2. Good Morning (The Kickdrums Remix) Feat. Big Sean
3. Champion (Nick Catchdubs Remix)
