About Me:

Arjuna Capulong — Since June 16Photoartist — Since March 18, 2006It’s ironic how I got into photography. The story is simple, really: During middle school, I was at a party where I brought my point & shoot digital camera. I let one of my friends go around shooting with it, and he accidentally dropped the camera on its lens while not paying attention.

So I decided that I was going to buy a new camera. At the same time, I was starting to get a taste of photography thanks to the Internet. While browsing I found myself looking at DSLR cameras for the first time, and ended up getting one for myself (and spent a majority of Christmas money I had been saving since I was a young child).

My father happened to be a photographer back in the day, and he became my photography mentor. I ended up getting hooked on photography, and it’s become a strong passion of mine.

My first DSLR was a Nikon D50. I currently shoot with a Nikon D80.

Turntablist — Since June 1, 2007

Before really looking into turntablism, I was looking into Classical Rock, which is when I discovered the legendary Jimi Hendrix. I became fond of Jimi Hendrix and his work, and watching, listening, and learning about him significantly pushed my interest in wanting to create not only visual art, but musical art as well.

The original plan was going to be to play the electric guitar. I had borrowed a friend’s guitar, but he had to take it back a few hours before I even handled it. So I didn’t get a good taste of it.

And after that, I had decided that I didn’t want to play just any traditional instrument, I wanted to play something fresh.

While using StumbleVideo, I happened to stumble upon a video of DJ Kentaro doing one of his routines, and I was absolutely amazed.

Initially, I had thought that all DJ’s really did was play music at parties, but after looking further into the DJing after watching Kentaro, I had discovered the art form of DJing called “turntablism.”

I became fascinated with what I saw you could do with turntables and vinyl. I had watched some great turntablists such as those who compete in the DMC competitions, DJ Kentaro, and of course, the legendary DJ Qbert. Then I realized that turntables would be the sort of instruments that would satisfy my taste for an “untraditional” instrument.

I decided that I would not wait for who knows what, and took the initiative and bought myself some turntables (a turntable, it actually ended up). I dropped 1K for this equipment, and I’m not putting it to waste.

My first turntable was DJ Qbert’s signature turntable, the Vestax QFO, and it’s what I’m currently using.

“Good artists borrow, great artists steal… But the best artists are the victims.” — December 8, 2008

“Being a child today is tougher then it ever has been in any part of the world.

Children are blessed with something that most if not everybody loses as they grow. Innocence. It’s our job to preserve that as long as possible.

Spirit, by nature is innocent. Innocence is what could heal the world. They say the world is going to end soon. Are you just going to sit back and watch?”
